Prepare your trip well

Packing your suitcase

The road-trip mode is synonymous with simplicity, so we advise you to bring only the essentials, namely: shorts and t-shirts, flip-flops, swimsuit, rain jacket (from mid-June to September), a light sweater (useful for cool nights, 20 degrees Celsius can be chilly), sneakers or hiking shoes, a soft bag (if you come with a suitcase, we advise you to store your clothes in the pick-up and leave it at our agency), mosquito repellent, sunscreen, headlamp, a good deck of cards, and a good book. If needed, you can find laundromats in big cities to clean your clothes. We offer a towel kit as an optional extra to lighten your suitcase.

Planning your itinerary

When traveling by 4×4 with a roof tent, the golden rule is to plan your itinerary but leave room for spontaneity. To assist you, we can advise you on routes based on your preferences (beaches, desert, mangroves, bush parks) and the duration of your trip in Senegal. Senegal’s roads can be tricky; we usually talk in terms of hours rather than kilometers. Don’t overload your itinerary, it’s also a time to take it slow.

Finding a place to sleep before nightfall

Night falls quickly in Senegal, around 7 p.m. We advise you to find your spot beforehand to set up properly. With the ioverlander.com app, it’s a breeze (make sure to download it beforehand). We highly recommend wild camping or campgrounds.

Conserving water and food

To remain self-sufficient, we advise you to manage your water consumption. You can find it for free at all gas stations or campgrounds. Similarly for food, bring a stock in case you find a place that captivates you enough to not want to move.

Whatever happens, remember that the key to enjoying your journey on the road in a converted pick-up is to be flexible and ready to experience an extraordinary adventure! Start by renting your vehicle with us, more information on our main page !
